I visited a castle yesterday, and I didn’t even have to travel out of the country – we have one right here in Loveland, Ohio. The castle is Chateau Laroche, otherwise known as Loveland Castle. It’s located down a very steep road and near the Little Miami River.

There is a ton of history to this place, and I’m sure I could have spent more time there than I did. It was built almost entirely by one man, Harry Andrews, who was an interesting person. He served in WWI and was pronounced dead at one point, but was not actually dead. He founded the Knights of the Golden Trail who now own and operate the castle.
As expected, there were many suits of armor on display. I always find these medieval things fascinating as they are so simple yet deadly. Sir Harry did not like modern warfare preferring more hand-to-hand combat like in the middle ages. He didn’t actually like modern life/society that much either which is probably something most of us can relate to from time to time.
Back to the armor – there are so many interesting details in the armor like the chain mail. That must have been a seriously labor intensive process back in the day done by someone very skilled. It must have been interesting to be able to create pieces like this.
I have no such skills so I’ll just take pictures of them.
